Ruby Nell Hampton

Ruby Nell (McConnell) Hampton, age 88, of Bradford (Skullbone), Tennessee, away peacefully on May 1st, 2026.

She was born on January 29th, 1938, in the small community of Riverside in Gibson County, Tennessee, to the late Cecil and Mogie McConnell.

Ruby married the love of her life, Landon Hampton, in 1956, soon after graduating from Bradford High School. Together, they built a life full of hard work, faith, and love. They raised two children, Rene’ Hampton Arrington (Mike) and Mark Hampton (Delana).

She was a proud grandmother to Tyler Arrington (Worthy), Jessie Keymon (Zac), Gentry Hampton (Allie), and Grant Hampton (Shelby), and a loving great-grandmother to Oliver and Theo Keymon; Walker, Mattie, and Odis Arrington; Millie, Maggie, and Liza Hampton; and Ridge and Dani Mae Hampton. She is also survived by her great-niece, Debbie French.

Ruby and Landon owned and operated the Skullbone Store for 55 years. If you ever stopped in, you knew you were not just a customer, you were a friend. She loved visiting, catching up, and making everyone feel right at home. She was truly known and loved by so many.

Her love for her family, her community, and her church was at the center of who she was. Ruby was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for 62 years, where she was active for many years. She was involved in WMU and served wherever she needed. She had a servant’s heart and a gift for making people feel cared for. She was known for her cooking, especially her well-loved Sunday lunches.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Landon Hampton; her daughter, Rene Arrington; her son-in-law, Mike Arrington; her brother, Tyree McConnell and her sister, Evelyn French.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 3rd, from 5 until 8 p.m. in the Hunt Funeral Home Chapel and again at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
