Maggie Nell Greenup

Funeral services for Maggie Nell Greenup, age 92, will be held on Wednesday May 31, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Hunt Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Northicott and Bro. Don Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at Bradford Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born August 10, 1924 to Oscar F. and Lockie Peay Hensley. She was the seventh and youngest child born to them and was the last surviving member of the family. She was raised in a strong Christian family and was affectionately known to her siblings as “Nellie”. Siblings include Percy Hensley, Ed Hensley, Maude Tharpe, Jewell Smith, Pauline Smith and Laverne Gordon.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Greenup, her oldest daughter Carolyn Joan Steele and her oldest son, Gary Ray Greenup.

Mrs. Nell married Paul (PeeWee) Greenup on December 3, 1939. They were married for 46 years before PeeWee passed away in 1986. They had (5) children; Carolyn Steele (Jerry) of Idlewild, TN. Linda Badgett (Tom) of Jackson, TN, Pam Williams (Terry) of Cresson, TX, Gary Greenup (Donna) of Humboldt, TN, and Roger Greenup (Shirley) of Brentwood, TN.

Mrs. Nell lived most of her life in Gibson County and the Bradford Community. She worked a number of years at the pajama factory in Bradford and later for Mrs. Judy Denning as a seamstress She also work with her husband PeeWee in the Bradford Lumber Company business which they owned and operated in the late 60’s and early 70’s and also assisted her grandson Keith Steele at the Idlewild Post Office.

There were three constants in her life: her loyalty and devotion to God, to her church and to her family. She leaves a strong legacy of faith for her family and friends. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Bradford for over 60 years and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class for many of those years.

Mrs. Nell is survived by three children Linda Badgett, Pam Williams and Roger Greenup, three son-in-law, Jerry Steele, Tom Badgett and Terry Williams, 1 daughter-in-law Shirley Greenup, eight grandchildren, Janet Tankersley, Jill McCartney, Keith Steele, Anthony Steele, Carrie Verge, Jordan Greenup, Jena Greenup, and Grayson Greenup, one step grandchild, seven great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Malidean Hensley, brother-in-law Richard Arnold and a number of nieces and nephews.

All memorials be sent to the Bradford First Baptist Church Building Fund.
