Jo (Meeks) McCartney was born on July 7, 1945, in Walnut, Mississippi. She departed this life for her eternal home on December 13, 2025, at 80 years of age. She was a graduate of Peabody High School.

On June 9, 1963, she married Bill McCartney. She retired from West Tennessee Telephone Company, but she had also worked for Dr. T.K. Campbell and at one time drove a school bus. She enjoyed her garden and cooking for her family. If you asked her, the role she loved most was wife and mother. She loved her Saint Louis Cardinals, the Tennessee Lady Vols, and the Bradford Red Devils. Her favorite team was always the one her boys and her grandchildren were playing on or cheering for at the time.

She was a faithful member of Belew’s Chapel General Baptist Church. She was active in serving her church for many years as church clerk and church treasurer.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill McCartney; three sons, Bob McCartney (Mary Anne) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Phillip McCartney (Marchell) of Bradford, and Michael McCartney (Alicia) of Bradford. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Heather Anderson (Mark), Britney Coleman (Tyler), Johnna Alexander (Joe), Tyler McCartney (Alex), and Kali McCartney; and her four great-grandchildren, Avery Grace Anderson, Harper Alexander, Blaze Coleman, and Cameron William McCartney.

Other survivors include her sister, Shirley Hayes of Trenton; her sister-in-law, Paulette Anglin (Johnny) of Dyersburg; and her nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Pallbearers include Joe Alexander, Mark Anderson, John Paul Anglin, Tyler Coleman, Tyler McCartney, and Jim Taylor.
