George Washington Pounds

Graveside services for George Washington Pounds, age 82, will be held on Wednesday July 2, 2014 at 11 am in the Pounds-Idlewild Cemetery, with Bro. Bill Rice officiating.

Mr. Pounds a reitred postal employee; was born in Bradford, TN on February 22, 1932, and passed away Saturday June 28, 2014 at his resident following an extended illness.

Mr. Pounds retired from United States Postal Service after 30 years. He also served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, where he was awarded several campaign medals. He served as Gibson County's Road Commissioner, Gas Commissioner, and was also a Member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Harvey and Ruby Bridges Pounds, five brothers, Jay Pounds, R.P. Pounds, Boone Pounds, James Pounds and John Henry Pounds, four sisters Altie May Pounds, Audey B. Hames, Maureen Barnstable, and Aliene Hyde.

He is survived by his wife of 40 yrs. Betty Pounds, one daughter Vanessa (Steve) Stephens of Monroeville, Alabama, two sons Gary (Nancy) Pounds of Anchorage Alaska, Michael Neal of Bradford, Tennessee, one sister Faye LaPaglia of Milan, Tennessee, 3 grandchildren, 2 great granchildren.
