Charles “Jerry” Steele
Funeral services for Mr. Charles “Jerry” Steele, age 89, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, in the Hunt Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Oliver’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Steele was born on October 22, 1936, in Idlewild, TN and passed away on October 6, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Jerry served with acumen and alacrity as self-employed farmer and truck driver for Meclan Trucking Company, Yellow Freight System, Inc., and ABF Freight System, in which positions he earned the respect of his peers and superiors alike for the exemplary quality of his work. He also served our country for multiple years in the Army National Guard.
Jerry and his wife, Carloyn, were considered highly respected residents of the Idlewild Community. They built a relationship with the strong foundation of principles, love, and respect for one another. Their blessed union grew and prospered as an expression of time-honored family values and selfless love. On April 2, 2011, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Their marriage represented the best and brightest of our society and as a reminder of the enduring value of marriage and the importance of strong families within our community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jessie Aslin Steele; his wife, Carolyn Steele; and his grandson, Alex Joshua Steele.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Keith (Michelle) Steele of Bradford and Paul Anthony (Lori) Steele of Kenton; four grandchildren, Jacquelyn Michelle (Jason) Denton, Charles Andrew (Emily) Steele, Noah Stafford, and Luke Stafford; and six great grandchildren, Cooper Denton, Jaselyn Denton, Scarlett Steele, Caroline Steele, Vivienne Steele, and Charles Anderson Steele.
Pallbearers include Charles Andrew Steele, Jason Denton, Cooper Denton, Noah Stafford, Luke Stafford, and William Sowell.
